Managerial Accounting and Control in Healthcare

This course covers managerial and costs accounting issues, focusing on the use of accounting information to support managerial decisions, including applications within the healthcare industry. Coursework will prepare students to identify and utilize information to support managerial actions encompassing: planning, control, decision-making, and strategic execution. Topics include overhead allocation, activity-based costing, variance analysis, transfer pricing, and managerial metrics. Through the study and discussion of case situations, students will be challenged to assess the situation, discover and focus upon the most relevant information, and utilize that information to develop and present recommendations in support of the types of decisions faced by managers within the healthcare industry.
